Tips for homesickness?

so far iv been to 3 school camps. My worst was in year 6 when I was so homesick that I couldn’t eat and started vomiting… On all my camps, I got sick. Iv been skipping camps ever since year 6 and now our school has this survival camp which is compulsory. Does anybody have any tips on how to not get homesick? Everything I try doesn’t seem to work and I don’t want to be vomiting again on the next camp. Please help me.

Oh you poor dear! My dad was in the army when I was young, so we traveled a lot. I got very homesick; even sometimes when I was with my parents. It’s a horrible feeling. You’ve got to keep reminding yourself that this is only temporary. Since you haven’t been away at camp you may not have the same experience this time. Bring some ’security’ items with you (things that make you feel better, like photos of your family, a pillow or blanket, etc). Bring some fun treats that you’ll enjoy using when you’re there, like some candy, a special book, colored pencils & paper for drawing, etc.). Bring a calendar to check off the days to see how much closer you are to the time you’ll be home. Bring a diary to write about the fun things you’re doing at camp. As you’re writing think how excited you’ll be to tell your family & friends about the great things you did. Bring postcards & stamps to write to family & friends. Think ahead of some things you want to do at camp. Setting some goals can help get you excited about your trip. Try to make friends you can have fun with at camp & stay in touch with later. It may sound silly, but putting a smile on your face & keeping a positive attitude can really help. Ask your mom if you can take a little bottle of the fragrance she wears with you, to spray on your pillow at night, to make you feel more at home. I wish you the best.
